Accessibility in Cemeteries and Memorial Sites
We make every effort to make cemeteries, military burial plots and memorial sites across the country accessible, to ensure the participation of everyone who wishes to attend the official ceremonies
What is accessibility?
Accessibility is a central principle in an inclusive and equitable society, referring to the ability of every individual, regardless of physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities, to independently and safely use spaces, services, and information. It includes physical adaptations such as ramps and accessible parking, as well as changes in communication and information, such as the use of simple language or subtitles. The implementation of accessibility principles not only assists people with disabilities but also enhances the quality of life for the entire population.
What do accessibility improvements include?
Marking accessible parking spaces for disabled individuals in major cemeteries.
Adapting ceremony areas for wheelchairs and other aids (everything required according to accessibility law, such as audio induction loop systems, transcription, sign language interpreting, and more).
Installing accessible restrooms in major cemeteries.
Installing ramps in burial plots.
Installing audio information stations at some sites.
Making additional accommodations to ensure the participation of individuals with disabilities in ceremonies and tours.
Developing the "Memory Lanes" (Netivei Zikaron) app to help locate graves, including accessible navigation. Download for Android, Download for iOS
What should I do if I encounter an accessibility issue?
Despite our extensive efforts, some cemeteries are fully accessible while others are only partially accessible - Mount Herzl, for instance, cannot be fully adapted due to the mountain's structure and shape.
