"Engraved in Eternity" - National Commemoration Conference
From content sessions and discussions focusing on commemoration methods in Israel, personal and national memory, and its transmission across generations, alongside exhibitions and private commemoration initiatives
Remembrance is an existential need—both personal and national. The strength and unity of a nation rely on its ability to remember its sons and daughters, their life stories, and their place within it, as part of one human fabric.
The conference will feature content sessions and discussions focusing on methods of commemoration in Israel, personal and national memory, and its transmission from generation to generation. These discussions will also address public responsibility, the connection between memory and community, the role of the nuclear family
in commemoration, and the world of children growing up alongside loss. The conference will also explore ways of commemoration in public and digital spaces, as well as civic and community initiatives born out of memory. Additionally, the conference will discuss questions of identity and belonging, the connection with Diaspora Jewry, the place of memory in Jewish tradition, and how security bodies and public organizations integrate memory as part of their value-based identity and daily activities.
At the end of the day, a summary will be presented, followed by a performance emphasizing the public commitment to carrying the memory of the fallen as an inseparable part of the shared story.
Alongside the content sessions, exhibitions and commemoration initiatives will be displayed throughout the conference—a unique open space showcasing a wide range of national projects alongside private initiatives by bereaved families, communities, organizations, and authorities (the Wall of Names, Israel's Commemoration Map, Memory Café, a digital space for personal remembrance, and a first-person exhibit).
