Benefits for Bereaved Parents
Bereaved parents of fallen IDF soldiers and security forces are legally entitled to monthly benefits and various services, aimed at easing, even slightly, the daily challenges as they cope with grief and loss
Fixed monthly payment
- Bereaved parents (couple) - 9,241.02 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
- Single parent or parent who is widowed or divorced - 7,392.82 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 (80% of the monthly benefit for a couple).
- Couple who lost more than one child (second loss) - 18,482.04 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 (200% of the monthly benefit for a couple).
- Single parent or parent who is widowed or divorced and lost more than one child (second loss) - 14,785.64 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 (200% of the monthly benefit for a single parent).
Gross up
Each month, the benefits slip will include an automatic payment of 500 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 which encompasses medications, purchase tax, licensing, and mobility, and is based on Section 10 of the Fallen Soldiers' Families (Pensions and Rehabilitation) Law, 1950.
Gross up components:
- Medications - 263 ₪
- Mobility allowance and licensing fee - 116 ₪.
- Assistance in purchasing household equipment - 100 ₪.

Health insurance
According to the Families of Fallen Soldiers' Families Law, the department participates in the payment of national health insurance.
The amount of participation is determined after checking the existence of an income source - whether the parent has or does not have an income source or payment from which health insurance fees are deducted, such as: salary, pension, and National Insurance Institute allowance.
Health insurance participation amounts:
- Single parent or couple with a health insurance deduction source – 182 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 - appears on the benefits slip as a benefit.
- Single parent with an old-age pension – 118.5 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 - appears on the benefits slip as a benefit.
- Couple with an old-age pension - 170 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 - appears on the benefits slip as a benefit.
- Single parent or couple without a health insurance deduction source (not receiving a National Insurance Institute allowance) – 120 ₪, of which 60 ₪ will be deducted from the monthly benefit and an additional 60 ₪ will be paid by the department directly to the National Insurance Institute - appears on the benefits slip as a deduction.

Memorial expenses
An annual grant of 1,109 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026, paid one month before the memorial month, starting from the second year after the loss.
In the case of a second loss, parents will receive assistance of 1,109 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 on the memorial date of each fallen. For example, if one fell in February and another in September, an amount of 1,109 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 will be paid in the January benefits and the same amount in the August benefits. A total of 2,166 ₪ in a calendar year.

Annual convalescence
An annual convalescence grant is paid to bereaved parents once a year in June, covering the period from January to December. In the first year, the grant will be paid partially and proportionally to the eligibility period from the date of the loss until December 31 of the same year.
The grant is calculated according to the daily convalescence rate, based on the rates of the Civil Service Commission.
Convalescence for bereaved parents:
- A single parent is entitled to payment for 8 days – 3,771.2 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
- A couple is entitled to payment for 16 days – 7,542.4 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.

Participation in landline expenses
- An annual grant paid every year in the January benefits, in the amount of 322 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
- In case of a second loss, a grant of 644 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 will be provided.
In the first year, the benefit will be paid partially and proportionally to the eligibility period from the date of the loss until December 31 of the same year.
Educational grant for siblings
Parents whose children study in grades 7-12 will receive an annual grant of 2,538 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 for each child.
The grant is paid in the August benefits, for the school year starting in September and ending in June of the following year. If the loss occurred during the eligibility period, a partial and proportional amount will be paid in the first year according to the months of eligibility.
Parents experiencing a second loss will receive a double grant for each child.
Mourning expenses
Parents are entitled to a one-time grant as participation in mourning expenses in the amount of 8,795 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
The grant will be transferred to the family by a representative of the Soldier Commemoration Unit from the end of the "Shiva" period until the end of the first 30 days of mourning ("Shloshim") period and after providing bank account details, regardless of recognition as a bereaved family.
Commemoration grant
A one-time grant of 9,156 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026, which will be paid one year after the loss and transferred directly to the bank account.

Post bereavement convalescence grant
Parents are entitled to a one-time convalescence grant close to the date of the loss.
The grant will be approved for those who submitted a recognition application within 24 months of the loss and will be paid after recognition is granted, regardless of the duration of the recognition process.
Recuperation grant amounts for bereaved parents:
- A single parent is entitled to payment for 10 days - 4,714 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
- A couple is entitled to payment for 15 days - 7,071 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.

Additional payment to a bereaved parent without income
An additional payment will be provided to a bereaved parent whose monthly income, from any source, does not exceed 671.83 ₪ for a single parent or 767.93 ₪ for a couple.
Allowances not considered as income: old-age pension, general disability pension, child allowance, compensation for health damages caused by Nazi persecution, housing assistance from the Ministry of Housing, National Insurance Institute nursing allowance, compensation for polio victims, assistance provided for guiding the blind, and benefits based on the degree of disability granted under the Disabled Persons Law.
- Additional payment to a single bereaved parent - 1,383.9 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
- Additional payment to a couple of bereaved parents - 1,729.88 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
Parents up to the age of 72 will be required to renew the application and submit financial forms and documents proving lack of income every two years. From the age of 72, there is no need to submit the forms - the additional payment will be made automatically. If the last time the additional payment was approved was at the age of 71, a final application must be submitted at the age of 73, and it will be approved permanently.
For the purpose of reviewing the application, please submit through your account:
- Bank account statement: Quarterly account statement (3 months).
- Pension payments: Details of pension payments from any source.
- Deposits and savings: Confirmation by the bank of deposits, savings, and annual yield.
- Military pensions: Confirmation of pensions from the IDF, Pensions Department.
- Income declaration: Income declaration form for receiving additional payment due to lack of income.
The welfare worker will contact the National Insurance Institute to obtain additional information regarding your allowances and employment status.
Additional payment to bereaved parents who have been widowed
A bereaved parent whose spouse has passed away will receive full couple benefits for the month of the loss and for the three following months (a total of 4 months).
From the fifth month onward, the widowed bereaved parent will receive single parent benefits. Bereaved parents who have been widowed and have reached the age of 67 will receive an additional monthly benefit of 1,748 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026.
Child supplement
Couples or single bereaved parents with children who are siblings of the fallen (including half-siblings) are entitled to an additional payment.
- For the first child under the age of 22 - an addition of 20% of the couple's benefit.
- For each additional child under the age of 22 - an addition of 11% of the couple's benefit.
