What is post-hospitalization convalescence?

If you were hospitalized for 4 nights or more, or underwent a series of chemotherapy or radiation treatments, you have the option to stay for a certain period at a convalescent home or hotel for your recovery and gradual return to routine. If you paid for a stay at a convalescent home in Israel or abroad, we can assist with reimbursement for these days, in accordance with eligibility and application criteria. 

What can you receive?

Reimbursement for stays at a convalescent home or hotel in Israel or abroad, for each day of continuous stay, up to 6 nights or 7 days, in accordance with the rates of the Civil Service Commission and the billing method at the convalescent home, and up to 471.4 ₪Last updated on 1.1.2026 per day of convalescence.

Eligibility can be utilized once per calendar year, and up to two months after the end of hospitalization or the series of treatments.

The reimbursement amount is the difference between the amount you paid for the stay and the amount you can receive from insurance companies and your HMO.

For example: If you paid 1,000 ₪ per day, and the HMO reimbursed you 600 ₪, you are entitled to the difference, a reimbursement of 400 ₪ per day.

Bereaved parents and widows experiencing a second loss

Bereaved parents, widows and widowers experiencing a second loss are eligible for a 200% reimbursement for one stay at a convalescent home or hotel (up to 6 nights or 7 days) or reimbursement for an additional stay.

How to apply?

To receive reimbursement, submit through your account: 

  1. Hospital confirmation 
    A confirmation must be issued regarding the duration of hospitalization or the completion of a series of chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

  2. Receipt or tax invoice 
    You must attach an original receipt or tax invoice in your name or a certified copy in case the original receipt was submitted to the supplementary insurance, and a stay confirmation from the convalescent home indicating the number of days or nights actually paid for.

  3. Approval of eligibility or ineligibility for recovery expense funding
    If the hospitalization period exceeds 5 nights, or if the hospitalization is required due to heart conditions or diabetes, you must submit an approval by the HMO and supplementary insurance regarding eligibility or ineligibility for recovery expense funding and the extent of their participation. Declaration form indicating non-receipt of payment from another funding source

If necessary, we will contact you and request additional documents.

What happens after you apply?

  • We will respond within 14 business days from the receipt of all required documents. If there is any delay, we will make sure to inform you.  
  • After eligibility is approved, the reimbursement will be transferred via the monthly benefits slip.
