Erecting a Tombstone

Military tombstones are erected by the thirtieth day after the passing and are uniform in design. To maintain a uniform and respectful appearance in military cemeteries and military plots, it is necessary to avoid adding items on or next to the grave (for example, adding pictures or planting trees). For any questions regarding the appearance of the tombstones, you can contact us.

Addition of a personal inscription

At the end of the seven days of mourning ("Shiva"), the regional manager from the Soldier Commemoration Unit will meet with the family and present the intended inscription for the tombstone, which is determined in accordance with the established guidelines in the Military Cemeteries Law. In the case of a fallen who was married, the regional manager will meet with the widow. In addition to the inscription, the manager will also present the brick to be displayed in the National Memorial Hall, the details on the Izkor website, and information regarding mourning expenses.

A family wishing to add a personal inscription must fill out a form in the personal area, while adhering to the guidelines:

  • The personal inscription will be at the foot of the grave.

  • Up to 48 characters can be written.

  • The inscription must be no more than two lines.

  • The inscription must not include expressions of political nature.
