What can you receive?

A loan for renovating the home where the parents, widow, or widower reside. The maximum loan amount is 139,196 ₪Last updated on 1.2.2026 and will be provided under the following conditions: 

  • It is your private residential property and owned by you. 
  • A personal residence in a kibbutz, for kibbutz members - in this case, a confirmation from the kibbutz must be submitted stating that it does not fund the renovation. 
  • An apartment in public housing - in this case, a confirmation from the public housing company must be submitted regarding the amount of its participation. The department will complete the participation, which will not exceed the maximum assistance amount. 

Bereaved parents and widows experiencing a second loss

Bereaved parents and widows experiencing a second loss are eligible for 200% support.

It is possible to choose to receive one 200% grant or two separate 100% grants.

Widows and widowers - you should know
  • You can also receive a one-time grant up to the amount of 64,676 ₪Last updated on 1.2.2026, provided you have not received assistance from the department for home purchase. 
  • To receive the grant, you must submit receipts indicating payment for the renovation. 
  • The grant will be included in the monthly benefits slip. 

How to apply?

For the review and approval of the application, please submit through your account:

  1. Price quote or agreement with the contractor or licensed dealer, including details of the work and costs.

  2. Building permit (if required).

  3. Details of funding sources - if the renovation cost exceeds the loan amount, additional funding sources must be declared. 

  4. Receipts indicating payment of at least 50% of the requested loan amount. 

After submitting the documents and receiving preliminary approval for the loan (a welfare worker will contact you to inform you of the approval), you can contact the bank to receive the loan. 

If necessary, we will contact you and request additional documents to review the application.

What happens after you apply?

We will respond within 17 business days from the receipt of all required documents. If there is any delay, we will make sure to inform you. 

Stages of loan approval

  1. In the first stage, you need to submit the application and documents through your account. 

  2. The application will be reviewed by a welfare worker, who will respond within 26 business days regarding eligibility for the loan. 

  3. Transferring your details to the bank - after receiving the details, the bank will send you a notification that the loan can be utilized at any branch of the First International Bank of Israel, at your choice. 

  4. The referral for the approved loan will be valid for 4 months only, and the loan must be utilized at the bank before it expires.

  5. Loan utilization - the bank will notify you via SMS about the transfer of the loan amount to your account. From this stage, the loan repayment amount will be deducted monthly from your benefits.

Loan guarantee

In some cases, it is necessary to present guarantors to the bank for the loan. The guarantors will commit to repaying the loan to the bank in case you are unable to pay.  

The guarantors can sign the guarantee at any of the bank's branches, not just the branch where you chose to apply for the loan. 

Modification or cancellation of the loan

If you need to cancel an approved loan, or shorten or extend the repayment term, please inform the welfare worker.
