Bar/Bat-mitzvah Loan and Grant
Assistance to cover the expenses for Bar/Bat-mitzvahs of orphans and bereaved siblings
What can you receive?
The coming of age ceremony is a special occasion in a family life. On this occasion, you can receive assistance to cover the expenses of your child's Bar or Bat-mitzvah.
The assistance is a one-time benefit for each child coming of age - girls at age 12, and boys at age 13.
- The granted loan is a fixed interest rate loan (not linked to the consumer price index). The interest rate changes every 5 years.
- The loan interest rates are determined by the Accountant General and are updated quarterly.
- In most cases, the loan repayment schedule is spread over 24 months. If there is a need to arrange the payments differently, you can request this from the welfare worker.
- It is possible that the loan terms offered by the department are not significantly different from those offered by banks, so it is advisable to check and compare the terms before taking the loan.
- The monthly loan repayment amount will be deducted from the benefit slip.
