What is assistance for vehicle purchase for work purposes?

Assistance provided for the purchase of a vehicle that will be used for work, livelihood maintenance, or rehabilitation, defined as a commercial vehicle according to the Ministry of Transport's definitions.   

Before submitting the application, initial approval must be obtained from a welfare worker.

The assistance will be provided for one of the following purposes:

  • Establishing a private business to create a source of income.

  • Sustaining an existing private business that serves as a source of income of the applicant. 

  • For employees - returning to work as part of a rehabilitation process. You must submit a confirmation from your employer stating that the vehicle is required for performing your role, as detailed below.

Bereaved parents

Assistance for purchasing a commercial vehicle – can be utilized once every 5 years

Grant of up to 77,118 ₪
 
Assistance for purchasing a vehicle for driving instruction – can be utilized once every 3 years

Grant of up to 49,035 ₪.

Optional loan, in addition to the grant

Loan of up to 27,354 ₪.

Please note

  • A pair of bereaved parents is entitled to receive one reimbursement for vehicle purchase. You can choose between assistance for purchasing a vehicle for work purposes or assistance for purchasing a vehicle for personal use.
  • If you choose to receive assistance for purchasing a vehicle for work purposes, you cannot receive assistance for purchasing a private vehicle for personal use or for purchasing a mobility scooter during the same eligibility period (5 years). 
  • When replacing a vehicle purchased with the department's assistance, the eligibility period for replacement will be calculated based on the vehicle's in-service date (as indicated on your vehicle license).
  • This assistance can be received up to 4 times in a lifetime.
  • If you initially apply only for a grant and later apply for a loan as well, you must submit the application to a welfare worker within 4 months from the grant approval date. 

Widows and widowers

Assistance for purchasing a commercial vehicle – can be utilized once every 5 years

Grant of up to 77,118 ₪

Assistance for purchasing a vehicle for driving instruction – can be utilized once every 3 years

Grant of up to 49,035 ₪.

Optional loan, in addition to the grant

Loan of up to 26,419 ₪.

Please note

  • If you receive mobility allowance through your benefits slip, submitting an application for vehicle purchase will result in the cessation of its payment.
  • If you choose to receive assistance for purchasing a vehicle for work purposes, you cannot receive assistance for purchasing a private vehicle for personal use or for purchasing a mobility scooter during the same eligibility period (5 years). 
  • When replacing a vehicle purchased with department's assistance, the eligibility date for replacement will be calculated based on the vehicle's in-service date (as indicated on your vehicle license).
  • This assistance can be received up to 4 times in a lifetime.
  • If you initially apply only for a grant and later apply for a loan as well, the application must be submitted to a welfare worker, provided no more than 4 months have passed since the grant approval date. 

Orphans

A grant of up to 77,118 ₪. This grant can be received once in a lifetime.

This eligibility can be utilized until the age of 30, provided you were recognized as an orphan before the age of 21 and have not received educational assistance from the department. 

Bereaved parents and widows experiencing a second loss

Bereaved parents and widows experiencing a second loss are eligible for 200% assistance.

The double support can be received in one installment or in two installments of 100% each.

Stages of loan approval

  1. In the first stage, you need to send us the application and documents through your account. 

  2. The application will be reviewed by a welfare worker, who will respond within 26 business days regarding eligibility for the loan.  

  3. Transferring your details to the bank - after receiving the details, the bank will send you a notification that the loan can be received at any branch of the First International Bank of Israel, at your choice. 

  4. The referral for the approved loan will be valid for 4 months only, and the loan must be utilized at the bank before its expiration.

  5. Loan utilization - the bank will notify you via SMS about the transfer of the loan amount to your account. From this stage, the loan repayment amount will be deducted monthly from your monthly benefits.

Loan guarantee

In some cases, it is necessary to present guarantors to the bank for the loan. The guarantors will commit to repaying the loan to the bank if you are unable to pay.  

The guarantors can sign the guarantee at any of the bank's branches, not just the branch where you chose to apply for the loan. 

Modification or cancellation of the loan

If you need to cancel an approved loan, or shorten or extend the repayment term, please inform the welfare worker.
