What is mental counseling?

Regular sessions with mental health professionals. The treatment includes individual, couple, or family therapy sessions.

  • For assistance in choosing the treatment or emotional therapist – our social workers are here to help you.

  • If you have already chosen the therapist – before starting the treatment, please contact us to ensure they meet the criteria outlined in the department's guidelines.

Below we will detail the conditions for receiving funding.

Mental health assistance in emergencies

If you need immediate emotional support, assistance is available 24/7:

  • Call the emergency hotline of ERAN at *1201

  • Contact the Psychological First Aid Hotline.

What can you receive?

We can help funding treatment with professionals approved by the Ministry of Defense:

  • A psychologist registered in the Ministry of Health's psychologists' registry, at the specialist level or higher.

  • A social worker registered in the social workers' registry, with a bachelor's or master's degree, and 5 years of therapeutic experience.

  • A specialist psychiatrist (preferably a graduate of a school of psychotherapy).

  • A therapist certified in expressive and creative therapy who is approved by the Ministry of Health, or who meets the criteria specified in the department's guidelines.

Duration and frequency of treatment:

  • A weekly one-hour session, except in exceptional cases in which professional discretion will be exercised by the professional in the department.

  • For a period of 12 months every time, and for a period of up to 3 years.

  • In special cases, it is possible to obtain approval to extend the assistance beyond 3 years.

Guardians of orphans

You can choose one of two therapeutic tracks: Mental health counseling or emotional support intervention.

How to apply?

There are two options:

  1. Receiving reimbursement
In this case, reimbursement will be transferred through the monthly benefits slip.
To receive reimbursement, submit through your account:

  2. Direct payment to the therapist
In this case, payment will be transferred directly to the therapist, provided they have an agreement with the Ministry of Defense. In the end of each month, you will be required to sign a treatment report for the therapist, confirming the dates of the sessions held.

    • Submit an application for mental health treatment funding through your account.
    • Before starting treatment, sign a confidentiality waiver form for mental health treatment.

You should know: In couple therapy for widows, widowers, or single parents, there may be a need for co-payment.

If necessary, we will contact you and request additional documents to review the application.
